The Orono Orphans lost to the Bowmanville Barons by three goals in a fast paced OHA Intermediate hockey game. D West led Orono with goals, while Robie Robinson and others contributed as Barons maintained a ten to seven lead. Two players suffered injuries including Armstrong with three cracked ribs and Olesuk with a facial wound requiring stitches. Orono expects home ice at Newcastle Arena once weather permits.

General Motors of Canada posted a 1952 output of 200,810 units as the first Canadian automaker to exceed 200,000 in a year. W. A. Wecker announced expansion plans at Oshawa including a five acre floor-space addition and a new 50,000 truck plant nearing completion to begin operations by June. The Oshawa facility, Windsor and St. Catharines plants employed 16,090 with a payroll of 58.685 million. Export production reached 36,891 units, up about 7,500 from 1961 figures.

William H Swancott Dies After Ill Health in 1952
William Henry Swancott died December 30 1952 at Bowmanville Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born 1887 in Clarke Township he lived in the Orono area most of his life. He bought a farm west of the Forestry Orono in 1918 and kept it as home. The funeral was January 2 from The Barlow Funeral Parlors with Rev John Kitchen officiating. burial in Orono Cemetery. He leaves wife Eva and many friends.

Harold C. Rickaby deputy minister of the Ontario Department of Mines received the Quarter Century Club pin for 25 years of continuous service. Winter Program For Children At Orono Rink
Orono Rink and Amateur Athletic Association sponsor a winter schedule of school skating hockey figure and public skating. Most activities are free with after school school skating three times weekly and separate age groups for hockey. The program runs with leadership from Rutherford Lycett Tamblyn West and Rickaby and features the Orono Figure Skating Club with about sixty members. The Pro W Distelmeyer and wife will teach in Orono Oshawa and Bowmanville twice weekly.
