Clarke Township Council Advances Welfare and Road Plans
Clarke Township Council met February 4 and approved entering Kendal and Lale Shore into the School Area, funded road work, and a 16 948.94 subsidy request to the Department of Highways. They heard on OB, the Ontario Municipal Association meeting in Toronto, and approved by laws for road expenditures and meeting date changes. The council also authorized a tag day by the National Institute for the Blind on May 10 and granted a $25 library subsidy.

On a Wednesday evening, February Sth, Orono Lodge No 436 won a degree competition for the Degree of Love against Bowmanville Florence Nightingale Lodge No 66. Five Orono candidates earned the honors as judges from Oshawa awarded the victory by seven points.

Parliament passes the Veterans Business and Professional Loans Act enabling honourably discharged veterans to borrow up to 3000 from any chartered bank in Canada for starting or expanding a business. Applicants must have seen overseas duty, have a sound plan, and provide one third equity. Repayment over ten years at five percent. The DAV and bank managers review applications for approval.

Orono Bantams Win Playoff Match at Bolton
The Orono Bantams defeated Bolton 4 to 1 in a playoff game with all goals in the final period. Scorers were Spencer Armstrong Norland and Keith Wiest on a pass from Chas Armstrong. Bolton hosts the return on Saturday at 3 15 p.m. if Orono advances they will face Delora or Bloomfield.

Stormy weather kept attendance fair at the February 6 meeting in Mr Summers office Bowmanville. A report by Mr Summers on calfhood vaccination in Cartwright and Hope Townships showed progress. A February 12 meeting in Cavanville was endorsed to discuss a medical and hospital scheme. Delegates were named for a Forum One meeting February 20 in Brighton and for the Hog Producers Convention in Toronto March 7. An election of officers could not be completed, and a new meeting is set for February 15 in Orono hall.
