Death of Orono businessman John James Gilfillan at 75
John James Gilfillan a prominent Orono retired businessman died Sunday evening January 28 in his 75th year. Born December 22 1870 in Darlington Township he studied in Bowmanville and the Ontario College of Pharmacy. He ran the Orono drug store from 1894 to 1987 and married Nellie Maude Johnston in 1900. He was active in Disciple Church Masonic Lodge and amateur photography. He leaves widow Nellie, son James J of Montreal daughter Viola G of Toronto and sister Miss Viola Gilfillan. Funeral at Park Street United Church attended by Masons, with interment in Bowmanville. A final note notes Canada shipping 500 million eggs to England this year.
