Horticulture Holds Interesting Christmas Flower Show

The Cr ane Horticultural Society hosted a Christmas flower show at the United Church main hall on December 14. Guests enjoyed two nature films by W Bunting, one on photography wonders and another about seeds to trees filmed at Orono’s station, with Bunting as scriptwriter. Prize winners were named across six classes, and a warm thanks was voiced to Mr. Bunting.

OPP to Build New Headquarters in Newcastle

Alex Carruthers MPP and Reeve Earl Walton announced a new OPP headquarters to be built in Newcastle on Mill Street, covering 1300 square feet. The 15 year lease will be with the contractors, and O Delkus Construction of Etobicoke will erect the building, with construction starting immediately.

Consumer Gas Donates Music Carrying Cases to Band

On Monday evening Mr William Laskaris of Consumer's Gas Company presented the Orono Junior Band with enough carrying cases for music to cover all members. The gift helps protect sheets of music still in use, with bandmaster A Darch accepting the donation.

Clarke Township Council Year-End Meeting Highlights

Clarke Township Council held its final 1966 meeting in the Council Chamber. Topics included reconnection of the fifth line pending Highways Needs Study, a third line west issue referred to the Road Superintendent, and plans for a summer camp on lot 12 Con 4. Objections to two Triplex buildings on Princess Street were tabled until February. The Road Superintendent may buy a lander via Northumberland Durham, and audits for boards by January 15, 1967 were mandated. James Stutt to Memorial Hospital Board for 1968 was approved. A $1500 charge to the Police Village for water project setup and $500 yearly operating cost plus $500 for 1957 were approved. Surplus over $6000 to be transferred to Reserve for Working Fund, and $364.65 to Orono Police Trustees from sanitation and garbage expenses.

Orone Hockey Mothers Install New Time Clock

The Orone rink has a new time clock installed last week by local citizens Earl Taylor James Middleton and Roy Mercer. Donated by the Hockey Mothers of Orone who raised funds through teen dances a mall booth and other events. The clock cost around 3600 and sits on the south wall in view of spectators with timing controlled from the penalty box.

Ontario Hydro decision awaited on Wesleyville land option

Ontario Hydro’s power plant plans for about 900 acres near Wesleyville near Port Hope remain undecided. Options on nearby farms expire January 31, 1968. Chairman George Gathercole said land has not been proved up and tests continue, with Bath Fredericksburg site tests finished. He noted decisions on Wesleyville and Fredericksburg are independent and both plants are needed.

Join In The Fun This Saturday At Orono Arena

Interest in the Family Winter Carnival Night at the Orono Rink grows as the Orono Amateur Athletic Association and Orono Chamber of Commerce sponsor a free evening. The program includes games contests and public skating with snowman building and snowmobile races possible if snow falls. Santa will greet young fans after seven.
