Newcastle Girl Wins Orono Chamber 500 Prize

Durham NDPs elect officers for 1968 in Orono on Tuesday December 5. New executive includes President Doug Moffatt Elizabethville and Vice President Don Prosser Astleton. Membership focus urged after 4000 votes cast in recent provincial election.

Orono Chamber Hosts Winter Carnival Draw Winners

Miss Margaret Denney of New Castle won the $500 prize in the Orono Chamber of Commerce draw held Monday evening. Harry Mercer took $200 and Mrs. Floyd Nicholson $100. The event accompanied Christmas decorations on Main Street funded by the Chamber amid trustee requests. Santa Claus visits and a free family night carnival are planned for December 23 at the Orono rink with skating, games, contests, and snow mobile racing if snow allows. The annual meeting will be held in the Odd Fellows Hall as a combined ladies night with a guest speaker. The Chamber will sponsor Main Street music and a sound system setup, and Christmas trees donated by Fred Lycett.

Trail To End Near Lindsay

A 17 member group from Lindsay Peterborough Millbrook Port Hope and Cobourg formed the Ganaraska Trail Association at Fairmount home of Mrs P A C Ketchum. They aim to extend the footpath from Millbrook to Lindsay by 1968 end with landowner permission and blazed routes.

Turkey Shoot A Success For Orone Fish and Hunt Club

The Orone Fish and Hunt Turkey Shoot last Sunday drew a large crowd and raised $125 for a new club house on a property under purchase. Participants won 11 turkeys six geese and eight chickens while hot dogs and coffee sold well.

Five Run For Wardenship In 1968 Northumber Durham Race

The wardenship race for the United Counties of Northumber and Durham in 1968 has five declared candidates. Gordon Carruthers, reeve of Hamilton Township, Roy Chatten, reeve of Brighton, Thomas, reeve of Cobourg, J Whittington, reeve of South Monaghan Township, and Mel Wight, deputy reeve of Seymour Township, are in the contest.
