Orono Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Santa parade this Saturday at 2 PM. Orono High School Majorettes lead, followed by the Orono Band and four festive floats. Clowns, reindeer sleigh, gift bags, and meeting Santa inaugurate Orono’s first Santa Claus parade with community groups aiding the event.

The Orono Women’s Association held a Thursday afternoon meeting in the Sunday School room. Devotional by Mrs. Rainey followed by readings and a Christmas program. They discussed sending a bale of clothing and canned foods to the Fred Victor Mission and approved donations to March of Dimes and Scott Mission. A bank balance of 680.83 was reported and 1958 officers were named for installation in January.

Orono Girls Hold Christmas Vesper Service
The Canadian Girls in Trafnihe and Explorer group hosted the annual Christmas Vesper at United Church Orono on Sunday December 8. The event featured a processional hymn, prayers, readings, and carols including Silent Night and Joy to the World with candlelight. A social hour followed with Women’s Association hosting. Mission Band members led readings and shared Christmas greetings.

Orono Odd Fellows Hold December Dance and Turkey Draw
The Orono Odd Fellows Lodge hosted their annual December dance in the hall drawing twenty five turkeys. About 150 attended with Farrow's orchestra providing music. Six birds were kept for local families while the rest left the area. Winners included G I Boothby Toronto and Andrea K Hadley Toronto among others. The lodge thanks all who bought tickets and attended.

Two Area Schools Seek Withdrawal from Clarke Township
At the Clarke Township council meeting Port Granby and Antioch delegations urged withdrawing their sections from the Township School Area. Police Trustees Plan for 1958 in Orono Area
