Orono Chamber Pledges $1000 to Ice Fund and Dinner Meeting
The Orono Chamber pledged 1000 dollars to an artificial ice fund at its monthly meeting held at Northway Restaurant. Members discussed entrances to Orono, possible overpass, and plans for the annual dinner meeting with tickets pre sold. Santa will visit Saturday at 2 30 p.m. at the Orono Fire Hall with Chamber help.

Orono Junior Band Begins Weekly Practice Session
The Orono Junior Band started a weekly session Monday evening in Township Hall basement. About thirty five youths attended to learn instruments from cornets to drums while new clarinets and other repaired horns are expected next week. Abe Darch leads the sessions sponsored by the Orono Band.

Clarke Township Board Seeks Approval for School Addition
Clarke Township School Area Board met to discuss sanitation concerns at Brown's School and plan expansions. The board authorized interviewing the caretaker, noted a $37 174 32 bank balance, and moved to cover all costs for the Newtonville School addition to secure 1966 grant funding while awaiting completion. A prior request to add three rooms to No 9 School at an estimated 95 000 remains tabled.

Orono Junior Gardeners Award Dinner Christmas Show
Orono Junior Gardeners Club held its annual Award dinner and Christmas Show on December 9 in United Church auditorium. Forty five attended. head table honored Rev and Mrs Long and other local leaders. 200 exhibits in the Hort show, Kiwanis trophies awarded to Chris Jorgensen and Chris Aslett, Sue Aslett received a diploma. judges praised quality across classes including Christmas table, door, mantel and winter scene displays.

Christmas Meeting Notes At Unit 2 U C Unit
Unit No 2 met Tuesday December 7 in the lower Church hall with 12 members and 2 visitors. Mrs Tamblyn thanked everyone for support during her term. Lunch plans were made for Thursday 16 at 8 p.m. 10 cent weekly bags collected and treasurer's report given. Mrs Etta Irwin moved a vote of thanks. Unit 4 presented an impressive Christmas programme.

More than 100 members attended the 55th annual convention of the Northumberland and Durham Apple Growers Association at Newcastle Community Hall. President Clare Allin presided as experts discussed Canada Pension Plan impacts, apple promotion plans, production trends, and pest control with weather influences noted.
