Orono and Warkworth Tie in Playdown Series
Orono and Warkworth split the Ontario Intermediate Softball Playdowns with Warkworth taking the first game 12 to 5 on their home field. Jud Te rwilliger walked eleven in three innings as Orono fell behind early. Paul Getlick pitched for Orono in the fourth and held Warkworth to one run the rest of the way. Carl Flintoff and Barney Cooper pinch hit for Orono. In the Orono at home rematch Getlick led a 10 to 8 victory over Warkworth, with Orono benefiting from double the Warkworth errors. Bill Gearing hit the only home run. The final game is set for Friday in Warkworth at 6 15 with a 3 15 bus from Orono.

Canada aims to fulfill bacon contract with Britain
Ontario Agriculture Minister Kennedy predicted Canada will supply 60 million pounds of bacon to Britain this year, despite 15 million already shipped. He believes the target will be reached before Christmas. He cited widespread pig farming across the province and noted a provincial ministers conference in Toronto August 28–30 will discuss marketing and research.

Church Reopens After Years Closed for Decoration Day
McCrae's United Church reopened on Sunday August 13 for a Decoration Day service. Former residents and relatives filled the packed church. A. H. Monk of Bethany led the service with Mrs. Roy Cochrane on organ and two guest soloists Mrs. Hartwell Lowery and Mrs. Raymond Chapman from Crono. Rev. Major John Foote gave the sermon. The cemetery, maintained by voluntary contributions, displayed many floral tributes.

Man Arrested On Outboard Motor Charges
Albert Stinson of 198 6len Ave Hamilton was arrested at Harwood on theft charges for two outboard motors. Ten motors were seized at his Hamilton home after a police search. Stinson appeared in Cobourg Police Court and was remanded for sentence as investigators determine ownership of the seized motors.

Abner B. Martin of West Montrose Ont owns Dorothy Mercedes Lee Snow a purebred Holstein whose 305 day senior two year old test yielded 16 707 pounds milk and 635 pounds fat at 8 80 percent. The cow later produced 18 663 pounds milk and 716 pounds fat yearly, ranking tenth in Canada for fat. Dorothy set world record fat and Canada record milk in her class while new to the milking herd.

Newcastle Girls Win Fifth Game to Claim Championship
In Newcastle park on Wednesday evening Newcastle defeated Newtonville eleven to three in the deciding fifth game of the girls softball finals. The series stood two apiece before the game, with 300 to 400 spectators watching Newcastle overpower Newtonville and secure the 1950 Clarke Darlington League title.
