Dirk Van der Werf An Ontario Scholar at Clarke High

Clarke High School reported that 80 percent of Grade 13 papers were passed, led by Dirk Van der Werf of Newcastle as an Ontario Scholar with over 80 percent. Others: Karen Lee of Leskard 77 percent, Beth Powell of Newcastle over 70 percent, Anna Marie Scott of Orono over 70 percent. Karen Lee to Trent University, Anna Marie Scott to Guelph University, Beth Powell to Kingston General Hospital nursing. Grade 13 class size was thirty.

Kimmett Bailey Wedding In Orono United Church

Mary Lynn Bailey wed Carl Roger Kimmett in Orono on July 22 1967 with Chrysanthemums in the setting. Rev Basil Long officiated as the procession included Wayne Bailey and bridesmaids Janice Webster and Lois Kimmell. A reception followed in the church basement with family gifts from local staff and communities.

Portraits From the Past Show Planned by Clarke Group

The Clarke Township Centennial Committee prepares a Sept 25 portraits display at Clarke High School auditorium. Local residents will model early day formal and casual wear, with costumes loaned by Ontario government.

New Post Offices Planned In Durham County

Durham riding MP Russell C. Honey says three post offices will be built in Durham County for Newtonville Pontypiel and Blackstock. Construction starts after land acquisition and price settlements. The official opening of the Orono federal building will be held this fall.

Orono Fair Day Includes Wilmot Hatchery Plaque Unveiling

Clarke Township specifies a September 13 unveiling of the Wilmot Fish Hatchery Plaque near Wilmot Creek West of Newcastle with Reeve Foster and committee. A village parade September 8 for the Durham Central Fair Grounds opens with schools receiving prizes and float entries. NHL hockey stars attend the Partner Plumbing booth with a speed shooting prize. Orono Junior Band performs.

Vacation Bible School At Orono United Church

Sixty eight children attend daily Vacation Bible School at Orono United Church led by Marvin Colvin from August 7 to 18. An open house Friday from 11 to 12 will show crafts and the Indian Village project with 21 assistants aiding in five classes Kindergarten through Intermediate.

Clarke Township considers drainage fix and triplex plans

At the Clarke Township council meeting, Mr. Joseph Francek was told to return in February 1968 to request drainage corrections for Lots 3 and 4, Concession 4. The dog license bylaw and elderly tax credit bylaw were advanced, with borrowing for the Orono Hydro system set at 25,000 dollars. The council also discussed two triplex plans by Mr Jan Ochowski at Church and Princess and approved road closings in multiple lots.
