Orono and Clarke Township mark the end of hostilities with a Wednesday public holiday and a grand parade. Notable attendees include returned soldiers, local officials, and a large crowd. a service at the town hall followed, and the Japanese Emperor figure was burned in a bonfire as part of the closing celebration.

Visitors Rev and Mrs Beech, formerly of Newtonville, now at Ripley Ont, called on the Bell family. Navigator LeRoy Brown, son of Mr and Mrs J D Brown, returned home from France and Holland on a thirty day leave after serving since May 1944. Myles Brown also returned from overseas and is with his parents. LeRoy recalls little bombing in England and met his brother Lloyd on leave from Holland before departing England. Council adjourns to meet September 4 1945 at 1 30 PM.

Girl Guides Return From Cameron Lake Camp
Thirteen Orono girls attended a two week camp at Cameron Lake near Fenelon Falls from July 27 to August 10. Guiders Carol and Anna Staples led handicraft and Mrs Hobbs of Oshawa supervised as divisional commissioner with Mrs Buttery of Bowmanville as camp nurse. Fifty eight attended including forty one Guides and seventeen leaders. Maureen McKenna placed second among tent leaders.
