Orono Carnival and Sports Day Planned for August 20

New Castle Fans Club hosts a carnival and sports day at Orono Memorial Park on August 20 with children races in the afternoon and adults games and dancing in the evening. The Oshawa Sea Cadet Band will lead a parade at 7 30 p m and Roy Forrester and his Tapiece orchestra provide music. Tickets for kids entering events redeemable for rides or treats. a merry go round, clown, and prize games add to the entertainment. Support for the newly formed club is requested.

Mrss Gwen Ransberry spent a few days with Miss Stella Best and George Forbes. Mr. and Mrs. Wm Malley hosted tea at Og yono Park with Whitby friends. John Moffatt and relatives visited Tulberose Sask. Gordon Moffatt and son Allen visited Bowmansville after a Lake Simcoe vacation. Decoration Services drew a large crowd at Mc Creeai Church with Rev Hancock and special singing by Misses Jean Rainey and Stella Best.

Wedding reception honors LeRoy and wife in Goderich

A July reception in Goderich celebrated Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Brown returning from their honeymoon. About 125 attendees from Huron County agriculture groups heard speeches and performances. The event, in the Pavilion, featured tributes by local officials and a formal address praising the couple and their service as agricultural representatives.

Girl Fed Up Ice of Iron Lung Rush in Toronto Fight

Ten year old Annette Elliott, injured in a July 16 shooting at Kendal, was rushed by ambulance to Toronto in grave condition. Doctors at Bowmanville and Wellesley Hospital arranged an emergency iron lung from the Hospital for Sick Children as a life saving measure amid a deteriorating respiration. An operation was postponed as her condition grew more critical despite the lung support.

Clarke Township Council Raises Taxes in 1947 Budget

Clarke Township council met August 6 1947 with full attendance. They approved prior minutes and filed letters on dangerous railway crossings. Resolutions funded Durham Central Agricultural Society and set a 1947 road program. By laws set village rate at 8 mills and Clarke Township rates by category. A dog tax collection study was formed and bills were approved for payment. Council adjourned to September 2 1947.
