Orono W Township council urges drainage and dump plans
The Orono West Township council met with acting Reeve H Walkey and councillors J W Stone and Russell Savery. Delegations asked to relocate a culvert for drainage, and to curb litter along the road. The council planned to buy land for a dump and to develop dumps in the north. A water distribution system for lower village was proposed at a cost of about 30 000 with 5.2 mills added to the village mill rate and new mains on Division Cobbledick Church Somerville Drive.

Department Remove Children From Whytehaven
The Ontario Health Department seized 110 children from Whytehaven last Friday. A court order obtained in Bowmanville authorized transfer to welfare services after a two hour operation involving 29 official vehicles. Children were dressed, tagged, and sent to shelters in Oshawa Toronto and nearby facilities amid secrecy and media attention.

Minister John Foote Named Sheriff and Registrar for Durham Northumberland

New Features At Orono Fair Boost Entertainment Value
The Orono Fair plans many changes for 1959 including a relocated midway south of the dining hall and new rides. Dane Found oversees promotions and a kids focused section with decorations. Jack Reid will run Friday and Saturday horse racing at the Orono track starting Friday evening. Dramatic groups from seven troupes perform in the Town Hall Friday night through Saturday. The Durham Central Agricultural Society backs the event set for September 11 and 12.
