Orono Crushers Bowmanville 13-7 in Big League Win

The Orono Intermediate Baseball Club racked fifteen hits led by Keith West 2 for 2 and Ronnie West 2 for 3 as Crono posted a 13 to 7 victory over Bowmanville at Orono Park. Dodson homered for Bowmanville as Crono built the lead with two in the second and two more in the sixth and eighth innings while committing three errors.

Home Run Lifts Port Hope To Third In League

A Wednesday night homer by Lowery of Port Hope with two aboard moved the team from cellar to third place in the Lakeshore Intermediate league. Port Hope defeated Orono 4 2 to gain a point over Orono in the standings.

Orono and Bowmanville Split Openers in Bowmanville Tilt

Orono and Bowmanville opened with a 7 to 5 Bowmanville win after a wild first inning. Errors and unearned runs plagued Orono as Bowmanville pulled ahead, with key hits from Cowle and Port Hope figures shaping the late frames.

Orono Cubs Plan Weekend Camp Samac Visit

The Orono Cubs prepare a weekend trip to Camp Samac with 15 to 15 local Cubs attending. Cubs leave Friday evening and return Sunday while the remainder go the following weekend. Cub Leader Carolyn Jones supervises the outing.

The Orone Pee Wees host Cobourg Training School in Orone Park at 6 15 p m for a best two of three Ontario O B A playoff series opener. Cobourg won two of three in their prior series with Maple Grove and the local team has not played in two weeks.

Hi-Teens Dance Recap at Orono Odd Fellow Hall

The Hi-Teens Club held a dance on Friday July 26 at Orono Odd Fellows Hall with fewer attendees than the first event. Ham Boyd won a lucky door prize an aluminum lawn chair. Mrs Gladys Brown supplied round dancing music and Jack Barrs from Bowmanville strummed songs. Patience and Prudence performed two songs though Patience lost her voice. Autograph requests were minimal. Lucky spot elimination statue dances and prizes plus a lunch prepared by the committee. Next dance set for Saturday August 1 at the same hall.

William E Seymour of Orono dies at 88

William Edward Seymour died at his Orono home after a long illness on July 24 1957 aged 88 He was a longtime Orange Lodge member of over 65 years He married Kittie May McLeod in 1894 The funeral was led by Reverend Long at Barlow Funeral Parlours and he was interred in Orono Cemetery.

Orono Welcome Ban Tam Series Tied in CB A Playdowns

The Orono and Welcome Bantams split two games with the third and deciding contest set for Welcome Saturday night. Welcome won the opener 17 to 10 led by Wayne Bailey who pitched five walks and 12 strikeouts, while Peter Maartense Donnie Lycett and Tom Cowan led Orono. Orono answered back with a 13 9 victory in Orono as Donnie Lycett fanned 12 and Hans Bosgrang homered.

Closing Ceremonies Mark Summer Recreation Program

About thirty parents attended the closing exercises at Orono Park as around fifty three children answered roll call. Children performed skits and games including sock races and a Ping Pong tournament won by Hans Bosgraaf and Brenda Lowery. Perfect attendance awards went to many children. the program was sponsored by the Orono Amateurs Athletic Association under Mrs. M. Lunn.

Durham County tobacco growers hope for rain as 1500 plus workers prepare fields and priming. The Orono Falk Fair Prize Lists announce the September 6 and 7 exhibition with hundreds of classes in farms produce livestock poultry cooking needlework flowers and children’s work. The Durham Central Agriculturalist Society invites all to exhibit and win prizes.

Bosgraaf Thajer Tie The Knot In Orono United Church

Jane Bosgraaf wed William Frank Thajer at Orono United Church in a pink and white gladioli setting. The bride wore white satin, a tulle veil and carried red roses and white carnations. Bridesmaids wore shrimp net and turquoise net gowns. The couple plans a honeymoon by car to Northern Ontario and will reside in Orono, Ontario.

Trans-Canada Pipeline Near Bowmanville To Begin August

Work on the Trans-Canada pipeline north of Bowmanville is set to start August 15 with Howard W. Franks of Dutton Williams Bros as project manager. The project covers 116 miles from Orono to Kingston, with the Oklahoma Construction Co. handling Tor onto Orono and Dutton Williams operating from Cohouse for about two months. About 1000 workers will be employed. The line runs north of Highway 2, crossing properties near Orono and Port Hope, with a 20 inch diameter pipe.
