Village Mill Rate To Take Further Jump For Water
At a special meeting of the Orono Hydro Commission Mr. E R Woodyard was given authority to prepare a statement for the next meeting regarding past operations. The clerk treasurer of Clarke Township was authorized to set a mill rate to raise 2400 for Ontario Water Resources Commission payments. Village taxpayers face an increase near seven mills.

31 Colts Registered For Orono Stake At Fair

Miss Candy Stork Wins Best Actress at Lindsay Hamlet Festival
Newcastle student Miss Candy Stork of Clarke High School received the best actress award for her Hamlet performance. The Clarke group competed with two other plays, Hamlet by Clarke High and Inside a Kid's Head by Bradford High. Peterborough Collegiate won best play for St. Joan with adjudicator Dennis Sweeting. Stork also earned best supporting actress in Cobourg.

Orono class raises 75 dollars for India aid
Our grade 5 class at Orono Public School joined Care Canada in January 1967 as a Centennial project. A dollar Care package feeds and clothes one child. Fifty dollars came from a book and toy sale and selling everyday cards. The class thanks all supporters.

Orono Public School pupils kept busy on Saturday with a village car wash to raise money for a school trip later this year. The event advertised well, had chamnois and water buckets in use, and saw students wash both exteriors and interiors. They raised a total of 28 dollars.

The Orono Park Board will sponsor a Centennial Beef Bar-B-Q on Wednesday July 5 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be on sale soon to guarantee a minimum number of servings. A professional team prepares the event using prime beef and a menu of relishes baked beans and western coffee. Each ticket includes a steak board to take home, with an inscription burned on the back, and attendees may eat as much as they like.
