United Church Seminar Opens In Orono

The Rural Life Seminar of the United Church of Canada opened in Orono with about seventy five delegates from five central conferences London Hamilton Toronto Bay of Quinte Montreal and Ottawa. Rev J Davies chaired the opening noting the need for change in rural church structure and leadership to meet a new age with stronger communities and shared talent.

Eastern Ontario Baseball Association General Meeting Friday

The Eastern Ontario Baseball Association holds a general meeting for clubs and officials this Friday at 8 p.m. in Port Hope Canadian Legion Hall to plan the 1964 season and draft leagues. Rainbow Trout Tagging Study Near Orono Draws Attention

Conservation officers tagged rainbow trout in the Wilmot stream west of Orono as part of a multi year study. Fish were captured by electrical shock, measured, fin clipped for ID, and recorded with sex age and scale data. A church gathering discussed the tagging as analogy to change in worship, with community members assisting, and a post service meal followed.

Orono Students Sponsor One Act Plays This Saturday

Grades seven and eight at Orono Public School present four one act plays at Orono Town Hall stage this Saturday April 18. Admission is 75 cents for adults and 35 cents for children. proceeds fund a trip to Ottawa on April 30 to May 1.

Plan Meeting For Swim Program In Orono

A meeting is planned for this coming Wednesday evening at 8:00 in the Orono Municipal Building to discuss forming a swimming club after the Orono Red Cross Society disbanded its swimming program. The Crowe Red Cross water safety program has been successful in the village with strong youth participation. The meeting aims to carry on the swimming program through another group.

HiC Church Service Draws Strong Attendance

Beautiful spring weather encouraged a capacity congregation for the annual HiC Church Service. President Grant Yeo led the service with Co President Lynn Bailey and honorary President Rev. Long assisting.

Orono Chamber Plans Fireworks and Rodeo Fundraiser

Fourteen members of the Orono Chamber of Commerce approved a 225 dollar budget to sponsor a fireworks display in Orono with rides and a rodeo to be promoted in June. The event includes a 50 40 10 raffle, a pony draw, and possible harness racing along with plans for an Orono Arena development and community improvements. Rev Duncan White is guest speaker and William Bunting spoke on Game Laws and wildlife conservation before a film.
