Counties Council approves a three quarter mill tax cut while offering a 25 percent freight reduction on lime transport. The Ontario Department of Agriculture will subsidize half the reduced freight up to 1.50 per ton, with higher limits in northern areas, to promote widespread soil lime application.

A quiet wedding on April 4 at Orono United Church Parsonage joined Kathleen Hilda Ard and Robert Ray Bryson. Rev. John Kitchen officiated. The bride wore a blue grey flecked gabardine suit with a natural straw hat and Lester Hebert rose corsage. Attendant Marian White wore pink, best man Jack Bryson. A reception followed at the bride’s home before the couple left for Montreal and will reside in Ottawa with the groom employed by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.

Wo man’s Association Meets For April Session
The Wo man’s Association held its regular meeting on Tuesday April 14 with president Mrs E R Rainey in charge. The gathering included hymn and prayer, a devotional by Mrs M J Tamblyn on Easter from the Passion Play seen in Florida, and a closing duet by Mrs Carson and Mrs Drummond.

Kendal Women’s Institute Holds April Meeting
The Kendal Women’s Institute met at the Sunday School room on a Wednesday afternoon, chaired by Mrs. N Kennedy. Members paid annual fees, heard letters from Mrs Munneke about moving to Orono and from Mr Cockburn and Mr Voerman regarding flood experiences in Holland. Prizes for top pupils in local schools were discussed, expenses approved for street lighting hydro bills and hospital birthday party, and a 1953 54 officer slate adopted with Kennedy as president. A social hour followed with hostesses Mrs Cathcart and Mrs Mercer.

Orono Orphans Fall In Semi Final To Bracebridge
The Orono Orphans lost 8 to 5 in the Ontario Intermediate B hockey semi final to Bracebridge, ending their first year in the league. Hooper made many saves in goal while D West and R West contributed goals, but Bracebridge pulled away in the third period to advance to the finals. The Orphans, who played most games away from home, plan another try in the 1953-54 season.
