Health authorities urge public support in a nationwide April Cancer War funded by the Ontario Cancer M ent and Research Fund. Aimed at $2 000 000, the three year plan builds cancer clinics research projects and education to reduce pleas and deaths from cancer. Banks will serve as donation centers this month.

Ottawa April 6 an order in council bans red netting used to cover peach heaps effective Sept 1. The move to ban red and orange coverings follows broad demand to remove concealment of defects. Agriculture Minister Gardiner expects Ontario cooperation and market quality improvement.

WMS and W A Meeting Minutes April 2 Family church note

The W M S and W A met on Tuesday afternoon April 2. Mrs R Allin led with Hymn 502 and the Lord's Prayer. Readings were given by several members and Mrs Wm Wannan spoke on I did not deserve that medal. The East Group donated 10.60 and three quilts for Red Cross and one for ICCE. Scripture from Luke 10 read responsively. Meeting closed with Mizpah Benediction.

Ontario agriculture officials urge farmers to boost potato yields per acre through seed quality soil prep and pest protection. Athletic Society Plans Summer Sports For Township Youth

The Athletic Executive discussed expanding sports programs including a juvenile hardball team possibly joining a Cobourg Port Hope Newcastle Bowmanville and Orono league. A district meeting is set for Tuesday April 16 1946 at 8 pm in the Armouries Orono for 15 to 18 year olds.

Thank Offering Meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society

The Easter Thank Offering meeting drew a large attendance. The delegate Mrs Delve reported that Oshawa Presbyterial allocations for 1946 totaled $129.00. Crono W M.S. won the scrap book contest. Mrs Drummond discussed The Light of the World painting. Mrs Hancock played a piano solo and Mrs Porter spoke on Mina Soga. Mrs Littlewood reviewed new W M S library books and encouraged reading. Tea and social time followed.

Clarke Township Sees Regular Meeting Actions and Finances

Clarke Township Council on April 2 1946 addresses road work and safety, health by laws, and library funding. It orders road inspections for April 20, approves tax collection extension to May 7 and grants 15 dollars to Orono Library for 1946, plus audit statement distribution. Multiple bills totaling 140 69 are approved for payment and council adjourns to May 7 for further business.

Orono Chamber Discusses Police Housing and Tomatoes Plan

The Orono Chamber of Commerce held a Monday meeting at Kumrite Apartments with many members. Gilbert of Campbell Soup spoke on tomato cultivation from Toronto to Port Hope, plans for a receiving station, and company support for growers including planting, fertilizer, and pickers. The group debated a Provincial Police Officer in Orono and hiring a local night constable, noting housing shortages and delaying tree planting due to the reforestation station's orders.

Clarke Township Council Awards $13 667 Grader Bundle

At a special Clarke Township Council meeting held Tuesday afternoon tenders were opened for new road machinery. The council ordered a power grader with scarifier bull dozer snow plow in one set costing 13667 dollars. The road department will pay the same hourly wage as last year.
