Frank Threadgold to Resign as Zone Commander
Com Frank Threadgold announced his resignation as Oshawa zone commander at a Legion rally. The meeting in Oshawa added two new branches Sunderland and Mount Albert, raised zone personnel and changed the zone number to F1. Three resolutions were passed including evicting tenants after purchase and compulsory Remembrance Day holiday. Threadgold urged greater community involvement and noted his long service in Whitby and county councils.

Cream Producers Of Durham County To Hold Meeting
The Durham County Federation of Agriculture met at the Stevens home near Bowmanville with strong attendance. Officers reported on salaries and planned Farmers Day for June 21 at Orono Park with a sports committee and speaker lineup. A countywide Workmen’s Compensation committee was named and 3,000 June federation papers ordered. Directors discussed the April 11 public meeting in Orono Hall and the next May 1 gathering in Hope Township.

Durham Junior Farmers Win Warden's Trophy at Oshawa
Forty three boys from seven counties competed in the Quinte Seed Judging Competition in Oshawa on March 21. Durham County won the Warden's Trophy for the seventeenth year with 227.44 points, Ontario County second with 224.5. Team members were David Craig, Orville Hindman, and Ross Cryderman. coached by H A Summers. Prizes included cash and two bushels of Registered seed for top finishers. the first twenty boys and the high scorer in each class earned rewards.

The Grono Amateur Athletic Association met at the Armouries to form summer teams for hard and soft ball. A girls softball league will be led by Stan Payne and C B Tyrrell, a men’s league by W E Armstrong and Ioyal Lowery, and a boys league for 14 and under with Jim Tamblyn and Fred Lycett. O W Rolph named manager of the men’s hardball team and the baseball committee, chaired by Fred Lycett, will arrange the leagues.

Clarke Township Council Minutes Show 1947 Road Funds and Levy
Clarke Township Council met April 1 in Orono with all members present. They approved minutes, filed a Worksmen’s Compensation letter, and accepted filed correspondence. Ontario Highways authorized 45 000 dollars for roads and machinery in 1947 and a Ganaraska levy of 1 400 dollars yearly to 1951. Hospital matters were deferred pending investigation. The treasurer noted 1946 road subsidy of 4 259.84 had been approved. Oshawa relief claim was accepted. Memorial Park machinery use was granted to local residents. Several resolutions passed including borrowing for current accounts and authorizing a truck purchase being rescinded.

Cream Producers to Vote on Ontario Marketing Plan
Ontario cream producers vote April 1 to 30 on joining a new Marketing Board under the Farm Products Marketing Act. A ten member negotiating committee will set minimum prices and sale terms, with licensing for creameries and producers. Ballots may be cast at county offices, by meeting deputy, or by mail in northern districts, with one vote per farm unit.
