Park St United Church to Vote on New Building Plan

Members and adherents of Park St United Church in Orono are urged to attend a Monday April 10 meeting at 8 pm in the Township Hall. Oshawa architect Mr George Tonk will present the building outline for ratification and possible interior tweaks.

Difficulties With Park Swimming Pool Discussed

The Orono Memorial Community Park annual meeting held April 3 discussed finances with $212.32 on hand. Directors R. R. Waddell and A. E. West were reappointed. Topics included a wading pool, building a new tank, tank floor heaving, patching the pool, and resurfacing the ball field with limited funds available.

Achievement Day for Junior Homemakers in Durham County

The Junior Homemaking Clubs of Durham County will hold their annual Achievement Day in the Township Hall Orono on Wednesday April 12. Girls from Bowmanville Blackstock Bethany Millbrook Kendal Maple Grove Elizabethville and Garden Hill will participate in skits demonstrations and exhibits on The Cereal Shelf Unit. Certificates of merit will be awarded and ladies are invited to attend the afternoon program.

Tyrone Couple Celebrates 60th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs James Alldread marked their 60th anniversary with family at home in Tyrone on March 25. Sons Cecil David Bowmanville Lloyd George attended. daughter Alvilla was absent. Alvin died in 1916. Grandchildren Clifford Doris Mary Russell from Toronto. They married 1890 at Orono Parsonage. lived in Pontypool Cartwright and Tyrone areas.

Bowmanville Rotary Meeting Highlights Farm Federation Talk

Bowmanville Rotary Club hosted about fifty members and fifty guests at Orono Town Hall. Guest speaker Weston Banister outlined how farm federations formed from township groups to a national level and discussed farm pricing, butter and cream markets, and the need for equitable policy. Rev Eustace thanked attendees. Carlos Tamblyn performed with piano accompaniment by Mrs Staples.

Flood Waters Washout Wide Gap In The Mill Road

Heavy snow and rain swollen a creek near Orono flooding the mill pond and undermining the roadbed. A west of dam gap about 30 feet wide and 18 feet deep released millions of tons of water toward the Thompson residence. Road closed, Coop mill to be run by hydro briefly.

Mrs W P Rogers guest speaker at W MLS meeting

The April Thank Offering meeting of the Women s Missionary Auxiliary was held in Mason Hall with Mrs M H Staples presiding and Mrs A A Drummond introducing guest speaker Mrs W P Rogers Bowmanville past president of Oshawa Presbyterial. She spoke on Our Christian Heritage citing unions in Canadian churches and the United Church anniversary. The group planned a clothing drive for overseas, thanked the speaker, and ended with a social hour.
