Delegates gather in Kansas City as the Democratic National Convention opens. Party leaders and speakers address supporters, outlining platform priorities and rallying for the upcoming roll calls and votes.
The National Democratic Convention was called to order at noon Wednesday by Chairman Fapes K. Jones of the National Committee. The convention hall in Kansas City was packed and the theater cheered as prominent party leaders, including Bryan, took the platform.
Crowds flood Convention Hall approaches as bands and firework bursts honor the Democratic gathering. Fire, destruction, and a phoenix-like rebuild mark the event with 15 000 attendees hearing Gov Thomas of Colorado and the Declaration of Independence.
William Jennings Bryan is selected for a second time as the Democratic presidential nominee at a Nebraska Omaha convention. The assembly heard speeches by Gary and Dockery, backed free silver, and honored Bryan as the roll call of states began amid cheering and a unified pro-Bryan chorus.
