Sudden Demise of Young Man Frank J Burley

Frank J Burley dies at 37 after a brief illness from typhoid pneumonia. A respected figure in the Wood Olin area and a former contractor, he leaves a wife, young son, and infant daughter. Services were held Wednesday at 2 pm, with burial at Mountain View cemetery. Surviving are his parents, sisters, and two brothers in Western New York.

Body of John L Bates Found in Clackamins River

The body of John L Bates of Verncada, missing since April 7, was recovered Sunday by Henry Himler and J. C. Crowe of Parkplace while fishing at Maine's Eddy. A jury returned a verdict of homicide. Bates was a respected citizen valued at $15,000 and had no recorded troubles.

Unknown Man Found Dead Near Clackamas Tracks

A crippled man was found dead along the Southern Pacific tracks just north of Clackamas. J. H. Rhogdardell of Clackamook reported the discovery to Coroner Holian. The body was taken to the morgue. A single trace lay near the victim.

Oregon City Welcomes Grange For 88th Annual Session

Oregon City hosts the State Grange in its 88th annual session at the courthouse with about 700 attendees including visitors from across Oregon. State officers Buxton and Treasurer Hirachburg outline views on direct legislation and constitutional questions while Pomona changes are debated. Evening program at Shively theatre features W. S. U'Ren welcome, lectures, music, and a short drama, concluding with national anthem.

Oil Company Buys Huge Well Drill at Stone

Stone Oil Company, Stone Oregon, has purchased a mammoth well drill from Star Drilling Company. They plan to move and erect the machine to bore oil wells and prospect in Ulankams County. The drill reaches 2600 feet, with predicted sands at 00 and 2200 feet. Deployment begins within a week.

Election of High School Instructors in Oregon City

Fred J. Toone, superintendent, was re elected by the board at an increase from 1200 to 1600 per year. Principal A O Freel and assistant Maude Mattley also re elected with raises. Carl F Anderson chosen principal of West Oregon City schools at a fixed salary. Beginning of next month elections for remaining teachers announced with several named positions and salaries.

Narrow Escape From Death in Oregon City Car Incident

Rosco Morris of Oregon City was struck by a Canemah car while riding with J. A. Newman near Portland Railway Light and Power Company tracks. The horse shied throwing both men. Newman had minor bruises and Morris, struck under the car, later found to have injuries less severe than first feared. He was taken to St Vincent's for examination by Drs Carll and Meisner.

Ogle Mines Developing Over Thousand Feet

John B. Fairclough reports rapid tunnel progress at Ogle Mountain Mine with about 1000 feet advanced. Three new veins, six to twelve feet thick, assay from 3 to 18 dollars in value, hinting at mother lode nearby. Ground to the 250–400 foot mark may reveal richer ore and inform milling plans. The Courier will detail the directors meeting and stockholder interest next week.

Injured Lineman Sent to Portland for Treatment

Guy Coulliard, seriously hurt ten weeks ago when he fell from a telegraph pole, was taken to Portland Thursday for a change of treatment. He has been helpless since the accident.
