City Marshal Shot in Prairie City Tragedy Kills Hickman

Ernest Hickman, Prairie City, Grant county, Oregon, was shot and killed early Saturday by Marshal William Lacey after a dispute with a bar patron. Lacey, who recently took office, is under arrest. Haight and others were injured as the gunfire occurred near a saloon.

Land opened for settlement in townships 5 to 18 south of range 4 east Willamette Meridian on Monday. About 12 claims were filed, each for 160 acres, half timber and half homestead. Runaway Team Crashes Down Main In Oregon City

A runaway horse team from the Oregon City Ice and old age Company bolted on Main Street near the Hub saloon Friday. The wagon crashed into a drag, shed a shaft, and struck the driver, causing a slight head wound. The horses then hit a fire hydrant and a telephone pole at Main and Third Streets, with one horse badly scratched but no serious injuries reported.

Dan May Acquitted in Horse Theft Case

Dan May was acquitted Friday afternoon of stealing a band of horses from West City. The case went to a jury Thursday night, the jurors out about 18 hours before a verdict. May and co defendants W E K Milan and Charles Decker faced charges. Milan posted bond while Decker was never apprehended.
