Veterans from county units gathered in Oregon City on Pension Day for a reception at Willamette hall. G A R and Woman's Relief Corps hosted with a banquet, wine prescriptions for traveling veterans, a Virginia reel and various fife and drum performances. Death of Pioneer Woman Porter Leaves Legacy Across Plains
Mrs Susan Gibson Porter known as Grandma Porter died at the Samson home in Main Street after heart failure at nearly 95. Born in Kentucky in 1814 she moved to Missouri, married Alfred Turner and with him and three children crossed the plains in 1860 to reach the Willamette Valley. Turner died at Green River Wyoming during the journey. she continued on to Salem and later married Stephen Porter. She left four daughters and sixteen grandchildren with many in the local community.
