Chautauqua Ends With Varied Pleasures At Gladstone Park
The Gladsone Park Chautauqua week closes next Sunday with a Saturday program of pyrotechnics and a fine musical event. Attendance rose as lectures by Dr Stephen Wise and Mrs Imogen Harding Brodie drew large crowds. Baseball contests and concerts marked days, with Mrs Belle Kearney and Judge Frazer among speakers.

J B Mulliken, 28, a lineman for Portland General Electric, was killed instantly on a Main and Seventh streets pole after a shock and fall across live wires. He was a Michigan native, unmarried, and a member of the Electrical Workers Union.

Seven Years in Penitentiary for Frank Riggins
Frank Riggins known as Frank Miller pleaded guilty in burglary in the Circuit Court. He faced four offenses including break ins at Liberal and McMinnville, theft of a Winchester rifle, watches, chains, clothing, and a horse. Judge McBride noted eight years already spent in the State Reform school and imposed seven years in the State Prison.

Tragic drowning after rescue attempt on towboat

John Kuppermann died after a hay wagon rolled downhill and disabled him. He had been working for William Hollberg, who had just bought the wagon and rack for hauling hay. Kuppermann, engaged to marry Hollberg’s daughter, was slated to wed next month.
