Death of Dr Joseph Casto Noted in County

Residents learn of Dr Joseph Casto death Tuesday night at his residence in our city after paralysis and a second stroke two weeks after the first. Born May 9 1897 in Knox County Ohio he practiced in several states before settling on the Pacific coast. Survived by his wife Juha A Anasto four daughters Kate Ella and two sons L and Charles with eldest son Frankus killed in Texas three years ago.

Eastham School Seeks New Gymnasium To Ease Crowding

Principal A K Hill urged the Eastham school board to build a new gymnasium funded by merchants and local citizens of Oregon City. The current basement playroom is too small, forcing pupils to sit or crowd during recess. Older students volunteered to work after school to cut construction costs.

I M Conlin, longtime proprietor of C C Stores in this city and Vancouver, died Sunday after a decade in a wheelchair due to locomotor ataxia. Born 1807 in Richmond Virginia, he served in the U S Army before entering the dry goods business. He leaves a wife Adelains Gowlin, a mother Jeanie K , three sisters, a brother in Detroit, several half brothers, and was laid to rest at Mountain View cemetery after services at Holman Myer’s.

Drowned Man in Willamette Near Quanemal

Charles E Midlam a Quanemal resident and Willametus pulp plant foreman drowned in the Willamette River Thursday morning. A rowboat capsized during crossing to the mill area and no eye witnesses reported the incident. Recovery efforts were launched but success appeared unlikely due to swift muddy currents.

Young man escapes harm after buggy mishap in Main Street chase

After attending to his bag, a young man attempting to mount a buggy fell across the tongue as the team bolted down Main Street. A pedestrian halted the frightened horses at Ninth Street. Resigns From School Board Post in Monday Meeting

Masonic Temple Oregon City Opens Large Store and Club

The Masonic Temple in Oregon City runs a large store on the lower floor and basement operated by John Adams. The second floor houses offices while the third hosts the Masonic lodge. The fourth floor is fitted for the Oregon City Commercial Club which is preparing for a formal opening.
