Humane Officer Bradley led to the arrest of W D Linn of Willamette after he tied four horses to a city curb on Seventh Street and left them for hours. The animals suffered chafed necks and flesh damage. one horse collapsed and had to be freed by cutting harness. Linn was taken to court, judged to pay a $2 fine, and refused to cover care costs.

Multnomah Lodge No. 84 A F and A M formed in 1848 and first west of Missouri River. Grand Master Lot L Pearce led the cornerstone ceremonies for the new Masonic Temple in Oregon City with 104 members present. The site program included a band, ritual stone setting, and a history of the lodge. The temple, 66 by 90 feet, three and a half stories, is to be built of concrete. An unusual late day personnel dismissal hit the building crew due to a faulty south wall, prompting a new superintendent and continued construction with plans to finish this fall.

Toll Gate keeper John Maroney dies after illness at 74
John Maroney longtime toll gate keeper on the Mount Hood and Barlow routes died Tuesday afternoon after a long illness aged 74. He leaves a wife two sons and three daughters and owned a Sandy ranch. A familiar figure to campers at the Toll Gate he was a member of the Sandy Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Mrs Fannie Black Dies at 63 in St Johns Heart Disease
Mrs Fannie Black aged 63 died Thursday night at her home in St Johns from heart disease. She resided with Hor Won and was found dead in bed yesterday morning. A former Oregon City resident she moved to St Johns three years ago and was a pallbearer for Mrs W S Shively. Funeral held at St Johns.
