Teachers at the Exposition will participate in a six day educational congress featuring sessions on pedagogy administration and classroom innovations. Organizers expect a large turnout with lectures workshops and panel discussions led by district and regional educators.
The Lewis and Clark Centennial Educational Congress will convene August 28 to September 2 in the Expo auditorium under the Lewis and Clark Congresses Committee. Sessions run 9 to 12 with possible evenings, free admission for teachers, and a program of talks from state and national education leaders.
The council plans to divide the city into wards and let each ward send a councilman to form a committee. The committee will study the lighting system, with one part focusing on district interests and another on townwide lighting. A special meeting will be held when ready to report to Mayor Somer for a final decision.
W.8. King a local gardener reports severe crop losses from cutworms in Clackamas County. He says 60 000 cabbage and 31 1 lettuce plants ruined out of 320 000 while he expects to harvest about 250 000 heads of cabbage and cauliflower. The worm damages plants by cutting near the soil surface.
The National Congress of Mothers sends Fredrick Schoff and Mrs. E Grien to Portland to form a Northwest State Congress of Mothers. W A Huntley J A Campbell Harvey H E Cross and Charles H H Dye of the Board of Trade with Engineer Rands visited Stafford on Friday to inspect proposed routes for a new road linking Stafford and Willamette. Opinion is divided among local farmers about feasibility, with northern and southern options each presenting cuts in distance and cost. Concerns center on a longer northern route vs a steeper southern grade that would sit about 20 feet higher than Stafford.
