Plans of Russians at Port Arthur herald major drive
St Petersburg reports that after weeks since the Japanese attack, Russia views the Port Arthur siege as only the prelude to a larger campaign. Viceroy Alexeeff’s forces move from Mukden with thousands of troops toward the main armies, while defense plans rely on fortifications and a Cossack contingent on the peninsula. Russia bets on overwhelming numbers and artillery to drive the Japanese back through Korea, with months of supply and readiness noted.
