Reminiscence of Hale Boyhood and July in Boston
In a reminiscence from Woman's Home Companion, Dr Edward Everett Hale recalls his boyhood July in Boston. He describes spending his allowance on a camera obscura and small treats, then narrates a historical moment as he passes Park Street Meeting House and hears the first national hymn My Country Tis of Thee. He reflects on joining the throng and the mixed feelings of enjoying the scene and the wartime memories.
