The Range County Observer lists subscription prices in advance at 1.00 for six months and 0.50 for other periods. Advertising rates are eight six cents per inch for the first insertion and ten cents for each subsequent publication.

Local greetings mention Fancy Grocery specials, Christmas treats, canned goods and fruits, holiday cards, and tobacco items. Notices announce a Havana Cuba tour in January 1909 and a marriage invitation for Berta V and J Ernest Taylor at Chestnut Ridge M P Church on December 23 1908.
James A Newman died at his Hillsboro home on Wednesday afternoon December 16 at about 56 years. He had been in poor health for some time and his death was sudden. He leaves his wife Lissie and six children. The funeral was Thursday at 3 30 pm from the Presbyterian church, Rev H S Bradshaw officiating, with burial in Hillsboro cemetery. Pallbearers included HL Parish R L Faucette Nathan W Brown John R Roach Ernest Reynolds and Charles G Rosemond.
Fire works use begins 6 p m December 24 1908 and ends 12 p m December 25 1908. Explosions of cannon crackers fighting and lighting candles in town lanes remain strictly prohibited. The rule is enforced due to danger and past compliance last year.

Mr Joseph Gregorie de Roulhas Hamilton wed Miss Mary Cornelia Thompson in Raleigh on December 22 and in Denver on December 23. Mr Browne Ruffin Webs married Mrs Verna May Monarch. Both grooms grew up in Millsboro where friends wish the couples happiness and prosperity.

Christmas program by the Methodist Protestant Sunday School of Efland on December 29 invites public attendance with committee members Mrs F R Brittain and Misses Mande Efland Mande Sobba Bertie Pratt Maye Brown and Annie Jordan. Local notes mention walnut buyers N W Brown & Company and a jail closure boast for Orange County.
By deed of mortgage Wm E Thompson with B F White and Mary White sell at public auction at Hillsboro courthouse. The lands include a 25 acre tract bounded by Turner and others and a 20.5 acre Gilbert tract plus two black mares a brown cow three hundred cross ties and costs of suit. Mortgagee WM E Thompson conducts sale to satisfy mortgage.
A jumble of festive offers lists fruits, nuts, crackers, and Christmas treats at Rosewood’s and Fancy Grocery. It promotes books, Bibles, dress goods, and other holiday items, urging calls to Durham Parish Company and noting a phone line for orders.
A personally conducted tour from Hillsboro via the Locomotive Southern Railway will offer round trip excursion tickets to Havana at set rates from Darhaa and Greensboro with further routes via Jackonwire Knight's Key or Port Tampa. Tickets available January 11 for return by January 27 1909, with stopovers allowed at Jacksonville St Augustine Palm Beach Miami and other points south. Names J H Wood W L McGlamery KR A DeBatts R L Vernon and others appear in notices alongside holiday ads and county commission notes.
Waving this day qualified as Administrator of Miss Ese W. Turner notify all indebted to the estate to pay immediately and all with claims against the estate must present them properly authenticated on or before December 1, 1909. After that date, claims may be barred. J. P. Turner Administrator.
