Young at Heart: 84-Year-Old Gets Tiny Micra Pacemaker
Billy Kimberly, an active 84-year-old Orange resident and Korean War veteran, became county's first patient implanted with the Micra leadless pacemaker. The device, approved by the FDA, is inserted via a leg incision and sits inside the right ventricle, invisible under the skin. Kimberly, once prone to fainting spells and fatigue, now enjoys dancing with his wife and daily activities without a visible device. Doctors say the Micra offers less intrusion than traditional pacemakers and may restore energy and function for patients with heart rhythm issues.
