The Orange City Council unanimously approved a 150000 settlement with Terra Cal Construction Inc for plaza restoration and a parking lot at 345 E Chapman Ave. Terra Cal sought 405242 for extras and delays after completion, while the city filed a cross complaint alleging defective work.
Eli Home formally complaints to HUD alleging city of Orange discriminated against families with children by limiting shelter expansion. Eli staff said HUD will negotiate a settlement after Richard Chavez, Eli's outreach director, announced the move. City Council rejected in June Eli's bid to add six bedrooms to the shelter for abused women and children. HUD declined to comment.
Bill Carroll opposes a two story 15293 square foot retail and office project at Glasell Street and Almond Avenue displacing the Thursday Farmers Market in Antique Station parking lot. Carroll says Old Towne storefronts evoke his Fairhope Alabama roots as plans proceed before the Planning Commission.
Fieldstone Communities faced expert testimony on environmental soundness as supporters and opponents offered last minute input during the first City Council airing. Nineteen people spoke by 11 p.m. The council postponed more hearings to Aug. 12. Fieldstone proposes up to 183 homes on 109 acres at Santiago Canyon Road with an optional community stable and park improvements worth up to 2.1 million dollars. The site currently hosts Hanson Aggregates West recycling operations. Opponents warn of methane poisoning and dam risk and urge keeping the land as parks per city planning documents. A petition with 300 signatures supported the project.
