Diary Found After Saipan Beach Battle
On Saipan morning of October 10, U.S. Marines including Y Lilang battled hundreds of Japanese troops. As bodies lay on the beach, Marine DE Meadows found a Japanese soldier’s diary amid the casualties. He recalled the shock of discovering it and the contemplation of keeping it.
