Clifford Thomas Jr was chosen by Mineola American Legion Post 705 to attend Boys State starting June 28 at Camp Dodge Iowa. He is a Glenwood High junior, son of Mr and Mrs Clifford Thomas, member of St John’s Lutheran Church, and works part time for Thomas Brothers Trucking with farm duties.

Brad Merritt one of six Iowa students auditioned in Des Moines last Friday for the Major Sanders Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Bandmasters Association. A recent Glenwood High School graduate, he represented the southwest Iowa district and earned a $50 grant toward college tuition. Earlier this year he won a $3,000 performing arts scholarship to Drake University and plans to attend the Des Moines campus next fall.

Mills County Board of Health was honored at the Iowa Public Health Association convention in Cedar Rapids May 9 10. Dr Elizabeth Proctor presented a plaque for its public health contribution 1973 74. Attending members included Mrs Clifford Luddington Clyde Patton Mrs C W Bolte Carolyn Washburn the county health nurse and Steve Buckingham with Johnnie Helms and Dr Rafael Roure absent. Patton chaired a banquet May 9 where Des Moines Register cartoonist Frank Miller spoke and cartoons on health were auctioned. The group credited County Supervisors support for the program.
