Unemployment Insurance Maximum Increased in Iowa
Beginning July 1 the maximum weekly unemployment insurance payment for jobless workers under Iowa's Employment Security Law rises to 75 dollars. It applies to claimants with high quarter earnings of 1490 or more during the base period, described as the first four of the last five calendar quarters before the filing quarter. About 34,546 Iowans were eligible for the max in 1972, 64 percent of total UI claimants. Eligibility requires job loss through no fault, ability and availability to work, active job search, and registration with the State Employment Service. The new rate follows the largest increase since 1965, raising totals from earlier years.
