The Board of Supervisors formed Center Township from parts of Silver Creek and Glenwood townships, reducing west Silver Creek by about three miles and east Glenwood by about two. Hillsdale becomes the township's commercial center, likely boosting its prosperity.
Shortly before leaving for combat a serviceman was relieved by the army to stay with his family in Glenwood after two of his brothers were killed in the war. He returned home in time to greet the New Year with kin.
Glenwood police logged four accidents last week with damages ranging from 250 to 800 dollars. Notable incidents include a Jan 7 collision at Railroad Avenue and Vine Street involving a 1969 Chevrolet driven by John McGlade and a 1975 Chevrolet driven by Joette Carpenter, plus a Jan 14 improper right turn citation after a crash on Locust Street. Additional incidents on Jan 16 involved Gary Mayberry and Steve Jacobson on Fairview Drive amid icy conditions, and a Jan 16 collision at Walnut and Second Streets between Lester Severn and Jeffrey Hoffman. A theft reported Jan 12 saw a calculator stolen from the Chamber of Commerce, with Nancy Barbour reporting two tires and rims stolen from her garage on Jan 17.
Mills County Sheriff's Department reports several icy conditions caused collisions and thefts. Joseph Talbott of Council Bluffs skidded on County Road 131, hitting a power pole and fence. his 1967 Chevrolet suffered major damage. Wayne Martindale collided with Richard Clipson after Clipson’s car slid at an intersection of Highway M4 and County Road 145, causing damage to both vehicles. Ronald Skidmore’s 1972 Chevrolet struck a parked car in Emerson while avoiding a dog, with damage to Skidmore and Beverly Douglas’s vehicles. Darold Buckman reported $600 lost from his Glenwood garage. Ron Koner reported a break-in and tool theft worth $240 through a broken window.

Robert Mowery of Council Bluffs pleaded not guilty in district court Monday to carrying a concealed weapon and malicious threats to extort. Trial date to be set. In a separate district court matter, Paul Hughes, who had pleaded guilty to OMVAS, was fined $300 plus costs and had his driver's license revoked for 120 days.
