The Mills County Sheriff logged three thefts last week including a battery and citizen's band radio taken from a 1971 Ford pickup at Merlin Hall's residence, 250-pound pigs missing from Wayne Burson farm, and a rifle stolen from Donald Eastwood's Emerson shed. A Roberts Dairy truck rolled on Interstate 29 near Pacific Junction, causing $400 damage after driver John Cine said wine distraction made him lose control. no injuries reported.

Funeral services were held January 26 for Helen S. Bates wife of Edmond R. Bates of Lakewood Colorado. She died January 24. Born April 1 1920 in Winner South Dakota she lived in Billings Montana and Lakewood joining Elks Foothills Golf Club and Glenwood Order of the Eastern Star. Interment Crown Hill Denver. Survivors include her husband eight grandchildren and five children.
Rep. Tom Harkin invites Mills County farmers to nine district meetings over the next two weeks to discuss ideas for a new farm program. He sits on the House Agricultural Committee. The Shenandoah event is at 9 a.m. February 15 in the public library at 201 South Elm Street.
A March 3 cardiac health clinic for children and youth with rheumatic fever or heart problems will be held in Red Oak for Millis County residents. Dr John C MacQueen of the SSCC directs the effort with University of Iowa cardiologists.
