A two-vehicle crash south of Glenwood Thursday afternoon seriously injured Steven Turner 23 of Pacific Junction and Rachelle Williams 18 of Glenwood. They were taken to Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Turner had head and spinal injuries Williams chest and hip injuries. Iowa Highway Patrol investigated with few further details.

Also, Mills County petition drives to halt voting machines and courthouse elevator drew 399 and 372 signatures respectively.
In Malvern Tuesday night law enforcement and county financial reps heard Vic Harvey of the Omaha FBI bank robbery unit discuss prevention and response to robberies and burglaries. About 50 people attended. The photo shows Eugene Burdick of Malvern Trust and Savings Bank, a mid-December extortion victim.
The Glenwood Community Schools report rising flu absences across grades. Senior high counts grew from about 50 last Wednesday to 112 on Monday, 109 on Tuesday. Junior high jumped from 86 Monday to 126 Tuesday. Elementary schools show varying absences with East 66 Monday, 77 Tuesday. West 48 Tuesday. Pacific Junction 15 absentees.
Senator Clark with Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield introduces a bill to repeal emergency year-round daylight saving time. He cites minimal energy savings, safety concerns for children, and reports of fatalities in Florida as reasons to re examine the policy and pursue repeal.

Mills County passed the 6,000 mark in car registrations for the first time, with 6,102 autos registered in 1973, up 174 from the prior year. Truck registrations reached 2,562 and receipts topped $364,868.17. Iowa posted 1,466,866 auto registrations and $80,005,559.39 in receipts, averaging $31.97 per vehicle.
Glenwood's National Guard unit will host an open house at the Armory this Saturday February during Master Day activities from 1:00 p.m. to about 4:30 p.m. A equipment display, mortar demonstration, and other Guard material will be shown near the birthday of George Washington, the original National Guard commander. Mills County Supervisors approved Fehrs Tractor bid for a $34,575 new grader with snow plow and, separately, $1,841 for a dump body and hoist from Omaha Body and Equipment Co.
