A fire gutted Georgetown's old town hall on Cross Street leaving a shell. Demolition crews moved in Monday as firefighters battled flames with limited equipment and later help from Oakville to prevent a wall collapse onto a nearby hydro substation.
Wrinkled hands, flames, and smoke mark the final performance of Googetowns old town hall a once grand centre of culture and civic life built in 1890. Though 60 years of gatherings and memories linger, the interior burned away leaving an empty shell while the town recalls the era of dances, stage shows, and community events that defined its social heartbeat.
The town of Lindsay expands its engineering office by two staff members. Charles Chataway, a longtime Lindsay employee and Vancouver native, was chosen from over fifty applicants as engineering assistant. Victor Mastrogiacomo, an incoming graduate from a technical training line in Toronto, joins the department under Gordon Fancy alongside draftsman Bob Hull.

In Hillsburgh's final series, game six was halted by dense fog after Glen Williams and Hillsburgh posted early innings. Hillsburgh leads the best of seven series three games to two as the fog ends play for the night. A Monday game in Hillsburgh is scheduled to resume. Also notes a fall fair in New Georgetown on Saturday October 5.

North Halton OPP report the last of four prisoners who broke from Halton County jail on September 15 remains at large. The escape occurred after the inmates slugged two guards, sending one to hospital for treatment.
The Gray Coach bus route toggle between James and Charles Streets and the Main Street line has sparked a prolonged dispute. Council efforts to allocate Main Street bus spaces stalled as the Georgetown Parking Authority offered a plan that lacked unanimous support.
