Georgetown Fall Fair returns with a Thursday opening for school displays and Friday judging of ladies work, flowers, vegetables, and livestock. Brumac Head Will Explain Local Plan

Bruce McLaughlin, president of S B McLaughlin Associates and MD of The McLaughlin Group, will address Georgetown Chamber of Commerce at Georgetown Golf and Country Club on October 16. The group plans major projects in Georgetown including the former Deltex holdings with over 500 homes built and 2000 more units planned, aiming for about 150 attendees.

Germans Will Tour Plants in Georgetown Visit

A group of seven German business and professional men will tour two Georgetown industries next week during a brief visit arranged by Rotary. The visitors, non-Rotarians from Rotary district 152, will travel here from Guelph after arriving Saturday. On Monday they will tour the Varian Associates and P. Graham Hell plants.

Baking shop bid blocked in residential street clash

The council refused Mrs. Robert Banfield's request to open a baking business at 145 Main St North citing nearby planned neighborhood commercial use across the street. Also notes Louise Harris and Ann Smith graduates in Walter Thornton class in Georgetown.

Plaza Branch Banker Moves to Long Lac

Paul Thompson from 11 Durham Street has been promoted to senior clerk and transferred from Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. He began at the Georgetown downtown Georgetown branch, spent eight months at Richmond Hill, nine months there, then moved to Georgetown plaza as accounting assistant for over a year, now posted to Long Lac near Port Arthur.

Glen Williams Bantam Team Wins Halton County Title

The Glen Williams Bantam ball team, coached by Paul Marshal Pete Pomeroy and Jim Frank, won the Halton County Rural Softball championship in three straight come from behind wins. They trailed Kilbride 3-0 to win 4-3 in game one, reversed a 6-0 deficit to take 12-9 in game two, and erased Kilbride’s 7-3 lead to prevail 10-9 in the final game Sunday night.

Voters May Ballot In Public Schools

Two apartment building proposals on John Street West and Mountainview Road were rejected by the Planning Board as they did not conform to the current by law or to the new official plan. Mareal Motors Ltd. sought two buildings totaling 123 suites on John Street while S Emmerson proposed a 20 suite complex on Mountainview Road. Council was informed by letter Monday night.

Bliss Company to Exhibit in Paris Hotel Show

E W Bliss Company (Canada) Ltd, a Georgetown firm and vending machine maker, will join 9 other Canadian firms to display products at a Paris hotel equipment exposition from October 10 to 21. The exhibit, sponsored by the federal Trade and Commerce department and participant firms, follows a 1967 showing that generated export sales over $1 million.

Major O J Ketcheson Takes Command of C Company

Major O J Ketcheson assumed command of C Company Lorne Scots at Georgetown Armoury replacing retiring Captain Frank Ching. He has long service with the Queen's York Rangers and prior senior roles with the Canada Manpower Centre in Essex and Kent Scottish. He resides in Brampton with his wife and two children and moved from ChatHam Branch earlier this year.

Council Moves To Shift Polling From Private Homes

Georgetown voters may cast ballots in public schools this December if the school board approves. Drs Ballentine, Smith push Chapel Street, Harrison, George Kennedy and others as polling sites to replace private homes, citing space and parking. The clerk and council debate authority and the need to use schools, with a potential nominations meeting set for November 18 at the high school auditorium.

Boy falls from tree house fractures leg in Georgetown

A fourteen year old boy, Danny Parent, living on Delrex Boulevard, Georgetown, fell about 25 feet from a tree house Monday evening and suffered a broken leg along with other injuries. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. The incident occurred amid disputed boundary changes and new polling subdivision concerns raised at a council meeting. The Fire Chief supported adding a polling station site, while discussions continued on safety and tree house ownership on private property.

Not Enthused About Library Addition Plan

Plans by the Library Board to extend the library met with little enthusiasm at council Monday night. A letter from John Bellamy reminded council of a June letter asking to discuss hiring an architect and repeated the request that the mayors of council are not in favour of raising that building. The mayor suggested building another library in the east ends of town. Dr W Smith agreed. He proposed including a library in the Delrex Market Centre extension. Deputy Reeve Arthur Speight noted that financing this year is impossible. Council will meet with the Library Board as a courtesy.
