Fire Delays Hospital Staff Car Fire Near Georgetown Memorial
A fire in a staff parking lot at Georgetown Memorial Hospital damaged the front seat and left interior smoke films. Mrs Bernice Savole, a relief nurse, found the blaze Saturday morning. Fire Chief Erwin Lewis cited an unknown cause and a shed delay in discovery.

Divorce Granted Under New Law Opens Ontario Court Term
The first divorce under Canada’s revised law was granted at the Ontario Supreme Court fall assize opening in Hilton County Court. A school teacher petitioned for separation over three years. New grounds include separation of at least three years and marital breakdown with cruelty or homosexuality. Registrar Madl notes 37 petitions in Halton since July, about 25 monthly.

Swerves to Miss Dog in River Drive Car Rollover
Richard D. Todd of 7 Guelph Street escaped when the car he was driving past a dog on River Drive rolled over after he swerved to avoid the animal. Police cited gravel skid and a $350 damage estimate from the mishap on a Wednesday in September. Norman Brooks, 14, suffered a bruised ankle after riding a bicycle into the path of a car driven by Fred Cooley on Duncan Drive near Raylawn Crescent. A hit and run damaged a Georgetown Market parked car for September 3, with Gordon Willis discovering the right rear panel, bumper and trim damage an hour later.

Eight Seek Job of Building Main Bridge
Eight tenders for the construction of the Blain Street North bridge over CN Railway were posted at council on Monday night. Tenders were examined by Dept of Highways engineers and will be turned over to committee. Council voted to allow two late tenders despite objections by Dr. Smith who argued they should be returned unopened. The roads chairman said fourteen have settled, ten have not replied and three have refused, noting only partial properties remain unresolved but this will not delay construction.
