After thirteen years as mayor, Joseph Gibbons will resign October 3 and start as assessor October 17. Arndtt Early resigned as assessor to become ven dor of a new liquor store opening later this year. Gibbons previously served as Ward 1 councillor, sat in council, retired in 1944, and returned to mayor by acclamation for the past three years.

Lorne Scots Band Wins First at Canadian National Exhibition
The Lorne Scots Band won first in their class at the Canadian National Exhibition last Thursday, scoring 274 of 300 points. Port Colborne placed second with 260 and Woodstock third with 242. Members under Bandmaster Alf Perrott included Charles Landsborough, Stan Jay, Vic Carter, Joe Wilcox, Fred Leece, and many others. Joe Wilcox won a cornet solo gold medal and Fred Leece won a euphonium solo gold medal.

Local People Injured In Auto Accidents
Two accidents last week involved local residents. Mrs. John Cordaro narrowly escaped death when her car collided with a truck at the No 7 and No 10 highways intersection near Brampton Ontario. She was treated for shock and bruises and remained in bed. Jack Hamilton, formerly of Scott Motor Sales, sustained facial lacerations and head injuries in the Brampton incident. Yvan Huffman had minor facial cuts. The Cordaro car carried homeware from Toronto for their new town restaurant. A Montcalm Construction Company truck caused the wreck with extensive damage to the Cordaro vehicle. The two boys left town to harvest tobacco at Delhi.
