Inducon to Develop 92 Acre Highway Site

Donald Fraser of Hrumac Developments told council that 92 acres on Indus k¢risland plan 617 were sold to Inducon Engineering Limited. The firm, with a Don Mills head office and affiliates in Montreal Hamilton Vancouver Buffalo Akron and Columbus, will build 100000 square feet in two years and the remaining in five, totaling 250000 square feet. Buildings must cover at least 20 percent of the lot area along the highway from General Fireproofing to Armstrong Ave.

Cleaning Firm Hired for Municipal Garage Cleanup

On Monday the council hired Gunding Maintenance Co of Dowsview to clean the new municipal garage on Maple Ave East for a three month trial. Allan Gund ing, residing at 48 Byron St, will supply labor materials and equipment for the contract.

Hornby by pass opens ahead of schedule this week

The Hornby by pass from Base Line Road to Seventh Line of Esquesing Two opens this week six months early and about 59000 under the original estimate. Traffic changes include a four way stop at Base Line Road for four to six months while drivers adjust. Armstrong Brothers of Brampton completed the project for 201000, far below the 300000 estimate, with final county cost around 185000.

New Recreation Centre for Maple Avenue Baptists

Maple Avenue Baptist Church moved two 15 by 50 foot portable buildings from Bramalea Yea to Georgetown and joined them on a prepared foundation to form a recreation and education centre. It will host Sunday School and clubs for Pioneer Girls and Service Brigade Boys, with future plan for a permanent auditorium and it has been designated as a polling station.

Brumac Town Consultants Plan Road Realignment

Brumac officials indicate the road will be realigned removing the Hornby west to 7th Line path and a stop sign at Hornby. Preengineering is underway for a 1% mile section south of Drumquin and plans extend soon to the segment from Lower Base Line Road to Highway 401.

Assessment Dept Returns to Main St Office

The town council decided Monday night to move the assessment department to 750 square feet of office space in the Woodrex building across from the municipal building. The department will relocate from the Metropolitan Development Building at Guelph and Mountainview. Monthly rent for the Main Street space will be 220 dollars.

Engineers Call for Interagency Talks on Town Development

Bruce McLaughlin tells council engineers must cooperate to review land release and project financing. The town backs a by law for a sewer plant extension costing £350000, with no town funding, and requires Ontario Water Resources Commission and County Board of Education approval before any development. A $275000 security is posted to cover interim tax loss risks as the proposal moves to Page 2.

UNICEF boxes on Halloween drive donations to fund vaccines for tuberculosis or protection for children. Each five cent contribution funds vaccines for one child, with UNICEF operating in 117 countries last year.

Council Briefs and Grants in Georgetown Notice

Council set a joint meeting with town consultants Brumac for Thursday Oct 31 and asked town engineer Gordon Fancy to attend. The council approved a 250 grant to the Georgetown Figure Skating Club. A letter from OWRC to Deltacraft warned about duties for Georgetown Gillertte, district children received clean fill to prevent flooding, and UNICEF boxes encouraged giving while a class could raise 50 to fund a mother and child care centre for leprosy and yaws treatment later.

Toronto council considers annexation and freeway routes

A Toronto attorney asked the council when it would annex the 10th area of Esquesing and where the Belflekhi Freeway would pass. The clerk replied they knew nothing about either query. The council received a wreath from the Poppy Fund and donated $50.

Five Georgetown Men Elevate to P Eng Licensure

APEC recently registered 604 new members, including five from Georgetown, granting them the right to use the initials P. Eng after their names. The 25,000-member Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario serves as the licensing body and aims to inform the public about the professional engineer’s role in Canada.

Bailey Bridge Opens Traffic On Main Street Construction Details

A temporary Bailey bridge will carry Main Street traffic on the east side of the current span to minimize school crossings during the four lane bridge project. Pedestrian sidewalks with guard rails, traffic control at each end, and demolition of several houses accompany the plan. A mother and her two year old son were injured near Guelph Street when struck by a car, treated and released. The accident occurred during the noon hour alongside a UNICEF appeal. Damage to the street and surrounding properties totals in the thousands as construction progresses.
