The Georgetown Baptist Church celebrated its 96th anniversary on Sunday October 24 with big attendances at both services. Rev J C Williamson of Preston Baptist Church was guest speaker, addressing the question What is man in the context of war. The day featured extensive choral and instrumental music and a concluding hymn Crown Him with Many Crowns. Evening revival services with Williamson and special music continue each night this week.

Hume Currie a well known livestock dealer from Stewarttown Georgetown and Esquesing died suddenly after a surgery at Toronto General Hospital. He served as director of the Esquesing Agricultural Society and often worked at the Union Stock Yards. Survived by wife Gertrude Agnes Fisher and daughter Mary Helena, funeral details note pallbearers and flower bearers with interment at Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown.
Pilot Officer Arthur Gray of Edinburgh Scotland spoke to St George's Church Boys League about his home university military training flight wings at Calgary and navigation instructor course at Roderich Empire Air Training Scheme station. He answered questions and inspired the boys with a spruce tree growth analogy. The club thanked him unanimously and the evening continued with games and refreshments.
Harry Chou, longtime operator of the Golden Gate Cafe, sold the business to the Chin brothers of London Ontario who assumed management last week. Harry has joined a private Toronto household as part of his new venture.
A special council meeting authorized the property and finance committees to hire a manager for the Arena and set terms. The town credited 25000 from 4th Victory Loan proceeds to municipal accounts as debentures mature. The council sold part of Love Street lot to Mrs Alvin MacDonald for 950.00 and granted Poppy Day permission with a 25 grant.
Four MacKenzie brothers from Georgetown join the Royal Canadian Air Force with postings across Canada. Druce, Bruce, Tan, Ian, Patricia, Larry, and Bob MacKenzie are all Brampton and Georgetown natives who trained at Manning Pool Toronto Trenton and Mountain View. Their mother supports war efforts as treasurer of the Soldiers' Cohorts Committee.

A head on collision Saturday night at the White Bridge on Main north of Meadowvale sent Mrs. Wilfred Curry to Toronto General Hospital with a badly lacerated face and neck after Wilfred Curry drove on the wrong side of the road. Percy Heath of Toronto drove the northbound car, four passengers in his vehicle and two in the Curry car, with Mrs. Curry the only injured. Dr V Williams treated her. Chief W G Marshall investigated and charges will be laid against Mr Curry.
The Fifth Victory Loan campaign in Georgetown shows slow progress with only 73,000 subscribed so far though payroll savings are not included. Citizens are urged to buy more bonds, boost the local thermometer display, and support workers with every possible contribution toward the one billion three hundred million objective.
More than eighty guests attended the fiftieth anniversary banquet of the Woman's Auxiliary of the Church of England in Georgetown. The event featured a fifty candle cake and period decorations, with charter members at the head table and greetings read from former members now living elsewhere.
