The name change from Phoenix House to Family Name has been officially completed to clarify the shop’s merchandise. Located in the Lane Block at premises once occupied by A. E. Wright meat market, the store opened in 1945 and was run by Jack Thompson then sold to the Barbers in 1946.

Provincial Paper Bowling Club opens season with dance and crests
The Provincial Paper Bowling Club of Georgetown held a September 24 dinner at Hilltop Lodge Erin for about 45 bowlers and guests. Gene Green accepted crests for the office team and Trevor Williams for the coaters as 1948 49 season winners. Wake Ford earned the best high single statuette and Green the high triple. The 1949 50 season started October 5 at the Lucky Strike Club with matches Office versus Colour Room Centers versus Cutters and Finishing Room versus Machine Shop.

Local Halton Deanery Women and Clergy Meet at St Luke’s Palermo
The Halton Deanery Woman’s Auxiliary and Clergy Chapter met at St. Luke’s Palermo on Tuesday October 4. Attendees included Mrs W Grant Mrs D W Baxter and Mrs W G O Thompson. Holy Communion was led by Rural Dean Heathcote with Archdeacon Thompson and Rev H G Watts. Bishop Bagnall spoke to the W A session and Miss Sue Kelcey, a China missioner, addressed the clergy session. Rev Heathcote re elected for a further term and Archdeacon Thompson presided. A quiet Clergy Day is planned for January at St Luke’s Burlington. Mrs J Komer Ferris was elected Deanery Secretary.

Georgetown Lions Club welcomed the this year's GRC league A champion Lions softball team at the McGibbon House dinner meeting.
