Georgetown Opens 1939 Baseball Season With Gala Monday

The Georgetown Baseball Club kicks off the 1939 season next Monday May 29 at 7:00 pm. Acton Tanners face the locals as rivals. Players donated $1 entry to help finance the season and fans are urged to support. New admission prices include free for children 15c for ladies and 25c for gents.

Car Stolen From Mills Recovered By Toronto Police

A Plymouth sedan owned by Mr. Ed McWhirter was stolen from in front of the Provincial Coating Mills on Tuesday evening. Police were notified and Toronto authorities recovered the vehicle on Dundas Street by 8 p.m. with little or no damage.

Parents Night at Georgetown Public School Concert

Georgetown Public School held its annual Parents Night on May 18 with teachers available to discuss student progress. The program featured choruses drills and plays including a scene from The Merchant of Venice and a pageant A Welcome to the King. Inspector L L Skuce spoke and Hugh Dickie awarded Halton County Musical Festival certificates to winners.

Bennett Allen Wedding at Finlay Home in Toronto

Miss Margaret Jane Allen daughter of the late Jean J. Allen married Frank Howard Bennett son of Mrs. Bennett and James Bennett in a ceremony at 163 Havelock Street Toronto officiated by Rev Carl Vermer. Attendant Mrs Frank Verral wore Venetian blue lace and carried butterfly roses. The couple left for New York and Washington after a reception and supper and will reside in Toronto.

Every Property Owner Should Poll Vote on Sewage System

Georgetown property owners are urged to vote on Monday May 29 whether to approve a proposed sewage system and disposal plant. Polling places are Ward I Town Hall Ward CD Barber Floral Co and Ward III Public Library open 9 am to 7 pm. The initial expenditure is 127000 dollars and voting is framed as a taxpayer’s choice.

The May meeting at the Reed home elected officers for both groups. Officers include President Reta Fisher and President Jack Lawson, with numerous roles filled by local members, and guest speaker Duncan Leslie, a Spanish War veteran, distributed souvenirs during the event. Charters Celebrate Golden Wedding in Hamilton

Mr and Mrs George Charters observed their 50th anniversary on Monday last. Married in Hamilton the couple are aged 80 and 75, both in good health. Relatives and friends sent many congratulations, and the Herald joins in the celebration.
