W C T U Convention Seeks War Time Prohibition
The Halton County W C T U held its forty fourth annual convention in Georgetown urging total prohibition for the duration of the war. Miss C Rosamund Duff spoke on temperance education and mass outreach while reports showed progress amid difficulties. The convention passed a resolution backing further action for prohibition.

Missing Stoker George Fox RN Anxiously Acknowledged in Portadown Times
Portadown Times reports Stoker George Fox RN missing at sea during submarine duty. He is the third son of William and Mullavilly’s Fox family of Georgetown. His brother Jack Fox works at Alliance Paper Mills and serves with the Lorne Scots militia. Other relatives include Samuel with the BEF in France and Thomas in London. Fox joined the Navy four and a half years ago and had China service before a home leave at Easter. He was 29 and popular, involved with Mullavilly Boy Scouts and Laurelvale FC.

Norval Man Laidlaw Dies After Brief Illness
Brother of Norval Women Sinclair Laidlaw dies at Peel Memorial Hospital on May 16 in Is 63rd year after a brief illness. A lifelong Churchville resident, he served on the Churchville School Board and as an official of the Churchville United Church. Survived by widow May Reid, two sons Bruce and Hugh, daughter Mrs Morris Wessel, and four sisters Mrs Wesley May, Mrs W N LaRoche, Miss Sadie and Miss Lily.

Former Local Man Castell Dies at Highgate
Arthur Castell, longtime Georgetown resident and bandmaster, choirmaster, and music director, died Saturday in Highgate. Born in 1857 in England, he later lived in Wiarton and Georgetown, led the 20th Regiment Band, directed music at Knox Presbyterian and Highgate Anglican Church, and served in Masonic orders. He leaves wife Emma, a sister in England, an adopted daughter in Michigan, and several nephews and a Detroit niece. Funeral services were held in Highgate with Masonic rites.

Home Church Anniversary at Alloa celebrates milestone
Alloa Home Church marked an anniversary on Sunday May 19 with Rev. Gilbert Agar guest speaking recalling earlier circuit days. Despite poor weather the service drew full attendance both morning and evening. Caledon East Quartette provided music and a Monday night program featured Rev Wesley Hunnisett guiding 25 trained youths in sacred classical music. Died suddenly the previous Sunday, she was mourned by Georgetown friends and colleagues as floral tributes reflected high esteem.
