The Norval Women’s Institute held its May meeting at Mrs. E. C. Reed’s home with Mrs. J. Patterson presiding. New officers include Pres. Graydon Chester Ist vice Oliver Hunter 2nd vice Lorne Cleave Seely Treas Joseph Murray Assistant W T Graham and various committee heads. The roll call hinted at next year’s program and last year’s receipts exceeded $400. Lunch followed the meeting.

At a Georgetown Liberal Association meeting in the Town Hall LeRoy Dale announced support for J. Marshall after 17 years service. Officers elected included W. G. Marshall president and Norman Hill secretary treasurer. Plans discussed for a convention and a Young Liberals group. Bell Telephone girls hosted a double shower for two brides Mrs Eugene Logan and Mrs Edward McNett with gifts.

Illness ends for Stafford-Benjamin Groat in Sunnybrook
After months of illness Groat died on May 6 in Sunnybrook Hospital Toronto at age 69. Born in Chinguacousy Township he was son of the Groat cheese factory founder. A veteran of the 1914-1919 overseas service he later worked as Massey Harris agent and at local plants before becoming Post Office caretaker. He was a Canadian Legion Branch 120 member. He leaves wife daughter and four grandchildren with a brother in Abbotsford. Funeral by Archdeacon W G O Thompson with Legion honors at Greenwood Cemetery conducted by Lt Cols Cousens and Brown.

English musician to adjudicate Halton Music Competition
Dr Reginald Cooper conductor of Bach Choir of Sheffield and Derbyshire Philharmonic Orchestra will adjudicate the Halton Male Choir music contest next month. Local entrant Kenneth Harrison was a scholarship winner two years ago. Mrs M Outlier, Halton Health Unit nursing superintendent, addressed the Countess of Strathford Chapter YODE on Monday night.
