Brumac Developments Proposal Report Nears Final Draft

A report on Brumac Developments plan to release a large building area for residential use in southeast Georgetown is nearing final draft. Municipal Planning Consultants said they are working on the final draft and expect completion within two weeks.

Four New Members Join Domtar 25 Year Club

Four new members Tom Hill Robert Barclay Isabel Dobson and Albert James were welcomed to the Domtar Fine Papers Ltd 25 year club at a Hilltop Lodge ceremony last week. Jon Crichton presented the 25 year plaque and two 40 year service certificates to Harry Tracey and a 30 year certificate to Merv Kirby. A minute of silence was held for Minnie Dunn and Gordon McNally who died this year. The club now has 41 members led by President Tom Eason and Secretary Stan Finlay. Mrs C Williamson and her band provided entertainment.

Residential Tax Rate Up 4 39 Mills In Georgetown

Georgetown council discussed tax changes and subsidy concerns after highway studies showed no need for traffic lights at Maple Avenue and Mountainview Road intersections. The budget raises residential taxes by 4.39 mills, commercial by 7.12, with overall assessment at about 20.3 million dollars. A church choir festival was announced, while tax refunds under Ontario's Property Tax Reduction Act total 54.68 dollars per qualifying resident.

Oxfam Walks Brampton Stirs Thousands To Fight Hunger

An army of adults teens and children walked at St Marys Brampton to raise funds for Oxfam. Officials counted about 3200 entrants with hundreds more unofficially joining. Sponsors pledged per mile and organizers expect well over 38000 raised, with post event collections and receipts still to be completed.

Surprise 25th anniversary party for Haylock couple

Seventy guests from Toronto Newmarket Brampton and Georgetown attended a 25th anniversary party for Mr and Mrs Larry Haylock at Oddfellows Hall 49 Charles Street. Sister from England staged a This is Your Life episode with co worker Mrs Howant presenting. Son Melvin Haylock a Ryerson grad arrived home for the celebration. The couple were married a quarter century ago in Witchmond Surrey.

David Kentner Elected President of Jaycees

David Kentner wins the Georgetown Jaycees presidency after last week's club election at North Halton Golf & Country Club. Wayne Bing ham becomes 1st vice president and Douglas Tucker 2nd vice president with Jim Sword as secretary Terry Gill treasurer and Wall Wilson Sam Jones as directors. Kentner also excelled in the western division Speak-offs in Brampton on the topic The Effect of Foreign Investment in Canada.

Three Car Collision Causes Minor Damage in City Intersection

A three car collision at the Guelph Water Street intersection on Wednesday May 1 caused only minor damage. John Ralph Strachan of Islington collided with Nuth Crouch of Brampton, who struck Gerald Nash of Glen Williams, with total damage estimated at 175 dollars. Police raid noted in report.
