A quiet wedding took place at the United Church Manse Ballinafad on Saturday April 20. Agnes Jean McEnery daughter of Mr and Mrs Archie McEnery married Gordon Alfred King son of Mrs King and the late Frank King of Georgetown. Reverend A O W Foreman conducted the ceremony. The bride wore turquoise sheer with pink flowers and a pink rosebud corsage. Her sister Colene attended in blue crepe. Bill Clark of Georgetown served as groomsman. A reception followed at the bride’s home and the couple will reside in Georgetown.

Georgetown Lions Club met at McGibbon House Monday and hosted Alvin Thessen of the Toronto Meteorological Bureau. Thessen, calling himself the keeper of records, traced weather forecasting from Aristotle to modern weather maps and noted Canada trained over 500 weather observers.

Vic Millar Missing After Athabaskan Sinking Near France
Able Seaman Frank Victor Millar of Georgetown served on the Canadian destroyer Athabaskan. The 1900 ton ship was sunk by a German torpedo off the north western coast of France near Isle de Vierge. 131 of 200 crew survived. Millar is missing but considered likely to survive after top deck action and prior injuries.

Flying Officer William Murphy, son of Pte J Murphy, reported missing after air operations on the night of the 25th. Born in England, Murphy served in the RC AF since 1941, earned wings at Jarvis, and was a Wireless Air Gunner turned Flying Officer. He recently returned from an eight day leave with his grandfather in Lancashire.

Georgetown and district report larger bond sales in this Victory Loan than the Fifth loan, with $138,000 total to Tuesday and $109,000 in the first week of this campaign. Dominion totals reach $481,244,050, while last year at this time they stood at $487,000,000. Three Alarm Fire Day Stretches Guelph Brigade
The Fire Brigade answered three alarms on Saturday. A grass fire near Ward's Hill and a chimney fire at Alex Taylor's behind Alliance Mill prompted the rapid response. The day followed two earlier incidents at Scott's garage side and the Taylor residence.
